About the role

For our client, a growing commodities trading company based in Geneva, we are looking for a Shipping and Logistics Coordinator. You will be responsible for the daily operations of the shipping department. This includes overseeing all aspects and activities related to operations, including loading/discharging, receiving, handling, inventory control, tracking and reporting. Taking full ownership of the process from rating freight for forward businesses, negotiating vessel fixtures and overseeing smooth operations.

Work tasks

  • As the first shipping and logistics professional in the company, take over responsibility for shipping and logistics functions from the commercial team
  • Manage vessel fixtures from beginning to end, including chartering of whole vessels, parceling business particularly from Pacific to Atlantic, COAs and potentially time charters
  • Work together with the commercial and finance teams to ensure smooth operations, and actively contribute to the development of the overall business
  • Together with the commercial team, work on logistics solutions for handling and storage of products and onward deliveries to customers by barge, rail and truck
  • Liaise with container lines and forwarders for any shipments by containers, as well as oversee and manage the process end to end
  • Maintain accurate records for shipment status
  • Provide market input on freight rates and the overall freight market to the commercial team
  • Assess the relevance and viability for the use of FFAs and other hedging (e.g. bunkers) to de-risk the company’s trading position

We are looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, commodities, logistics or related field
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in dry bulk shipping in the ferrous metals or other commodities or related areas
  • Ability to think and work independently with a pro-active attitude and desire to grow together with the company
